Archive for July, 2009

On Thursday afternoon, I attended a special Cavalia performance for Chicagoland charities. After a quick lunch under the White Big Top (sitting a couple of tables away from some of the performers!), the show started. Charities from all around Chicago were there, including Lighthouse for the Blind, Boy Scouts of America, Equestrian Connection, St. Agnes Health Care and Rehab, Skinner Park Summer Camp, and many more! It was amazing to see both children and adults alike mesmerized by the performers and the horses.

After the performance, a few charities were lucky enough to go backstage and chat with some of the performers and see the horse stables.

Click here for more information about Cavalia, which is running through August 16, at Racine and Jackson, under the White Big Top.

It may be a few months away, but we’re super excited that SOFA CHICAGO 2009 is returning to Navy Pier November 6 – 8. For those of you who don’t know, SOFA stands for “The International Expositions of Sculpture Objects & Functional Art,” and this is SOFA’s 16th anniversary in Chicago as the pivotal fair for both cutting-edge contemporary work and historical material. This year, SOFA CHICAGO will present work from 90 international galleries and dealers.

We love how the image above portrays Chicago. For those of us who take the L everywhere – like me – this is a very familiar scene. I can imagine myself bopping to my iPod music on this very street downtown!

It was a memorable weekend for jazz dance this weekend here in Chicago, where companies from all over the world performed at the Harris Theater. Hosted by the Jazz Dance World Congress, the Jazz Dance World Festival featured four nights of diverse performances – Wednesday through Saturday – and even a free preview with Masashi Action Machine and Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago in Millennium Park last Thursday afternoon. Here are some pictures from opening night with the SeeChicagoDance.com table and at the free event in the park!
